That name reminds us of cities, and most international tourists come to visit them: San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles… it is truth that New York or Las Vegas are two of the most interesting and different cities I’ve ever visited, but make no mistake: THE BEST OF USA IS ITS NATURE, and international tourists usually skip it because they don’t even know it.
Nature lovers have in this country an essential one; it is huge and IT HAS IT ALL:
- On both coasts beaches abound, and although we have all heard of California, the best ones are in Florida and Hawaii.
- Coasts: the most famous is the Big South in California.
- Forests: not only the Redwoods or Yosemite, there are dozens of superb natural parks. The Olympic is probably the most spectacular rain forest I’ve ever seen.
- Jungle in Hawaii and Florida.
- Desert: The Grand Canyon and Monument Valley are the stars among many amazing rock and deserts in Arizona and neighboring states.
- The Rocky Mountains, although less famous than those in neighboring Canada, and the highest mountain in North America, in Alaska. In Hawaii there are plenty of volcanoes.
- Three of the largest lakes in the world are between the United States and Canada.
- Niagara Falls.
- And the arctic landscape in Alaska.
Perhaps someone may think it is logical that a massive country has everything, but the fact is that the United States, Argentina and Australia are probably the most complete; Brazil, Canada and Russia are comparable size or larger, but its nature is not as rich and diverse.
If the traveler is not interested in nature, there are many interesting cities. They lack of the classic beauty and historical heritage of those in Europe or Asia, but the cultural and leisure opportunities are high in many of them.
In any case, in the US there is a lot to see, and I’m still missing almost everything. Let’s see if the dollar stops rising and I can be back soon.
