HIROSHIMA PREFECTURE

ESPAÑOL

Updated on February 25, 2019

For most people, this name only evokes two words: bomb and war. They do not lack reason, but this region is much more than that, it is a place where everyone should go to:

  • Its capital, Hiroshima, has gone down in history with the sad honor of being the first and to date penultimate city where the atomic bomb has been used, and you have to visit it to, as they say there, know the history and not repeat it. A trip should be more than taking pictures; It is a very important and essential destination. It is the first site I visited dedicated to explaining the barbarity that human being is capable, and therefore it is one of those that most impressed me.
  • The nearby island of Miyajima should also be visited, because it is one of the most beautiful and charming destinations in Japan. The harmony between temples and nature of the island is simply poetic and charming. I would repeat it a thousand times.
  • Onomichi, east of the prefecture, is the starting point of Shimanami Kaido, one of the most famous bicycle routes in the country, which runs for more than 70 kilometers on huge bridges (one of them the longest suspension bridge in the world, almost 5 kilometers long) that connect islands of Seto Sea.

Spend a few days in the tight schedule of almost all visitors to a region so far from the TokyoKyoto axis is something that few hardly propose, and many would regret if they really knew what they miss. Whether for historical, scenic or originality reasons, and partly in spite of itself, this region is unique.
